The Process Of Cryogenic Deflashing


Low temperature liquid nitrogen will be injected in spraying mist on the moulded parts. During the conversion from liquid to gas state the extracted energy causes freezing of the burrs reaching the embrittled condition as fast as possible. The actual molded parts are much thicker and will still remain elastic and not frozen.

The moulded parts are loaded in a barrel which will tumble itself during the process in order to ensure all parts can be blasted by suitable small size polycarbonate media.

The shock frozen burr is not as solid as the actual moulded part as it like thin glass, therefore it can now be removed by blasting media with high efficiency.

Any damage to the surface by flaking off due to the tension will be avoided.

This cryogenic deflashing process is able to remove mold flash from difficult to reach areas including cross-holes, blind holes and other difficult geometries.

Most rubbers, plastics, and composites have been successfully deflashed with cryogenic deflashing.

Common material suitable for cryogenic deflashing include NR NBR, FKM, EPDM, neoprene, LSR, fluorosilicones, ABS plastic, PEEK, Delrin and other acetals, nylon, PPS, HD/PEs, PEIs including Ultem, Vespel, polypropylene, zinc, and polycarbonate with Glass fiber.

FAQs On Cryogenic Deflashing Machine


1. What is a general process ability for a 60liter and 120liter capacity machine in one day?

Our 60liter machine can process about 2.5kg parts in one batch, batch cycle time will be 7 mins, so about 20kg per hour and 160kg parts can be deburred in one day. And a 120liter cryogenic deburring machine can have 2 times as the processing ability of 60liter’s machine.


2. If want to apply the cryogenic deflashing technology, what the preparation should do as a buyer?

The supplier will include the machine, the cyclone splitter, discharge pipe and transformers included in the quotation. Therefor, for the buyer, the affiliated equipment or devices like Ln2 tank, pipeline, power supply and Ln2 supply will be necessary.


3. How many liters of nitrogen consumed in one batch or one minute?

Generally, for a 60-liter capacity cryogenic shot-blast deflashing machine, the consumption of Ln2 nitrogen at the temperature of -70C will be about 55liter per hour, as we know there are about 8 batches in one hours, so the consumption in one batch will be 7liter, and in one minute will be 0.9 liter.
